PMS FLUID BED DRYER

Fluid Bed Drier for Food and Pharmaceutical Ingredients

middle

PMS Fluid Bed Drier is a rapid industrial drying equipment that is used to dry a variety of materials in a continuous and efficient manner. The dryer operates by using a fluidized bed of air to suspend and transport the materials being dried.

In PMS Fluid Bed Dryer, fluidized bed is created by passing a stream of air through a perforated bed of material, which causes the material to become fluidized and suspended in the air stream. The machine offers several advantages over the conventional hot air oven, including faster drying time, uniform drying, less energy consumption, and improved product quality.

Normally, the dry time of Fluid Bed Drier is about 15 - 40 Minutes. PMS offers the capacity from 1 to 500 kg / batch.

THEORY OF OPERATION

Heated air is forced flow upward through a bed of particulate solid at suitable velocity so the solids are buoyed up and become partially suspended in the air stream. The solid particles are continuously lifted and subsequently fall back in random parabolic motion, so called "Fluidization".

The Fluidization is efficient for the drying of solids because each particle is completely surrounded by the drying hot air. The intense mixing between the solid and hot air results in uniform temperature, composition and particle size distribution throughout the bed. Fluid Bed Processor shows four to six fold advantage in thermal efficiency over a Tray dryer. Drying time and handling time are significantly faster than tray dryer. The average drying time of Fluid Bed Processor is about 15 - 40 minutes.

Particulate solids are contained in a drying chamber fitted with fine wire mesh support at the bottom. In addition, a Finger-type filter bag is provided on the top of the chamber to prevent carry-over of fine particles

Fluidization technique is also adaptable for Spray Granulation, Encapsulation and Coating of solid. Dry ingredients are placed in the chamber and fluidized while the granulating liquid ingredient is spraying into the bed, causing the particles to agglomerate into granules and dry by the heating fluidizing air. Encapsulation or coating liquid could also be introduced in similar method.

APPLICATION

  • Pharmaceuticals: Fluid bed dryers are extensively used in the pharmaceutical industry for drying granules and powders. They are particularly suitable for drying heat-sensitive materials, allowing for gentle and controlled drying without compromising the integrity and efficacy of the pharmaceutical products.

  • Food: Fluid bed dryers find application in the food industry for drying and dehydrating various food products. They are used to remove moisture from Powder and Granules of fruits, vegetables, herbs, grains, and snacks, enhancing their shelf life and preserving their quality.

  • Chemical: Fluid bed dryers play a crucial role in the chemical industry for drying and cooling chemical compounds and intermediates. They are utilized for drying chemical powders, crystals, and catalysts, facilitating efficient handling, storage, and further processing.

  • BENEFITS

  • cGMP Compliance: Ensure the safety and quality of products produced

  • Faster Drying Time: Fluid bed dryers provide faster drying times compared to conventional hot air ovens. The fluidization process in a fluid bed dryer promotes efficient heat and mass transfer, allowing for rapid moisture removal from the material being dried. This can result in shorter drying cycles and increased productivity.

  • Enhanced Heat Transfer: Fluid bed dryers offer improved heat transfer compared to hot air ovens. The fluidization of particles in a fluid bed creates constant movement, ensuring uniform exposure to heated air. This promotes efficient and consistent drying throughout the material, reducing the risk of overheating or under-drying.

  • Improved Product Quality: The gentle and controlled drying environment of fluid bed dryers helps maintain the integrity and quality of the dried product. The uniform drying process minimizes the formation of lumps, agglomerates, or hot spots, resulting in a more homogeneous and high-quality end product.

  • Energy Efficiency: Fluid bed dryers are generally more energy-efficient compared to conventional hot air ovens. The fluidization process can achieve efficient heat transfer with reduced energy consumption. This can lead to cost savings and lower operational expenses.

  • Reduced Risk of Contamination: Fluid bed dryers provide a closed system with improved containment, reducing the risk of contamination. The sealed drying chamber minimizes the entry of external contaminants during the drying process, ensuring product purity and meeting strict quality standards, particularly in industries like pharmaceuticals and food processing.
